During this shore excursion you will visit the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum combined with the possibility to hike the summit of the crater of Mount Vesuvius.
Your English speaking driver will pick you up at the port of Amalfi at 8am.
During the tour you will have the opportunity to visit the Archeological sites of Pompeii where you will have 2 hours to walk around through the highlights of the ruins on your own or hire an official licensed guide.
The second stop will be at the Archeological site of Herculaneum, the town which is located at southeast of the city of Naples. The medieval town of Resina was built on the volcanic material left by the eruption of Vesuvius (AD 79) that destroyed the ancient town of Herculaneum, from which the present name is derived. In Herculaneum you will have about 1 and ½ hours to visit the ruins on your own or hire a licensed guide.
Then we will drive you up to the Mount Vesuvius, famous for its catastrophic eruption in AD 79 that led to the destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum and the death of 10,000 to 25,000 people. We had many other eruptions duing the years and today it is still considered active and monitored 24 hours from the local observatory because of the population of 3,000,000 people living nearby and its tendency towards explosive (Plinian) eruptions.
Your driver will lead you almost at the top of the crater and leave you in a parking area, where in 40 min walking you can get to the summit and join the breathtaking view of all the bay of Naples.
The tour will end at the port of Amalfi in the afternoon at 17:00.
We only accept cash payment in Euros.
The tour will not include lunch, gratuities, entrance fees and the licensed guide in Pompeii and Herculaneum.
* The entrance in Pompeii is 15 Euros per person and Herculaneum is 13 Euros per person (but it is free of charge for kids under 18 only showing a valid ID).
* Entrance fee to the Crater of Mt. Vesuvius is 10 Euros each person.
