Today we will drive you in the south of Campania region to visit the Greek Ancient city of Paestum located on the coast of the Tyrrhenian sea in the Magna Grecia.
The first stop will be at the Barlotti cheese factory where it is produced the famous buffalo mozzarella entirely made by hands and exclusively with milk. Here you will have a guided tour visiting the stable where are used the most avantgarde techniques of milking to safeguard animal welfare, hygiene and milk quality, visit the leather shop and the museum with tools and equipments of various periods and finish with a taste of the dairy production.
The tour will continue towards the ruins of Paestum originally founded under the name of Poseidonia approximately in the 600 BC from the Greek colonists of Sybaris and later conquered by the Lucanians and then the Romans. Here you will have free time to visit 3 of the most well-preserved ancient Greek temples in the world (Temple of Hera, Neptune and Ceres dedicated to Athena). Then you will visit also the Archeological Museum with its archaic Greek sculptures and vases where it is preserved a great series of metopes from the nearby sanctuary of Hera, which depict scenes from Homeric myth and women dancing to honor the goddes.
After visiting the Greek ruins of Paestum we will drive you back to Barlotti cheese factory where you can have lunch and taste all the food specialties made with buffalo mozzarella before to drive you back to the port in the afternoon.
