This shore excursion is recommended for people who wish to visit the ruins of Pompeii & Herculaneum and hike the Volcano of Mount Vesuvius.
Your English speaking driver will pick you up at 8 AM at the Naples port.
The first stop will be at the Archeological site of Pompeii that was covered by Lava from the Catastrophic Eruption of Mounth Vesuvius spanning two days in 79 A.D. and it was only discovered in the 16th century before to start to digs the ruins officially in the 1748. Here you can visit the ruins for 2 hours on your own or hire an official licensed guide.
The next stop will be at the ruins of Herculaneum, the medieval town of Resina that was totally covered by the volcanic materials left by the eruption of Vesuvius (AD 79) that destroyed the ancient town of Herculaneum, from which the present name is derived. Here you will have 1 hour and 1/2 to visit the ruins on your own or hire an official licensed guide.
The tour will continue towards Mounth Vesuvius, that is well known for its eruption in AD 79 that led to the destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum and the death of 10,000 to 25,000 people. From the 79 A.D. until 1944 (when it was the last eruption) we had 80 more eruptions of Vesuvius that is why it is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because of the population of 3,000,000 people living nearby and its tendency towards explosive (Plinian) eruptions. We will lead you directly at the top of the Volcano where is a big parking area and from there you can start to hike the summit of the crater taking a stroll of about 80 minutes.
The tour will end at the Naples port in the afternoon at 17:00.
We only accept cash payment in Euros.
The tour will not include lunch, gratuities, entrance fees for all the 3 sites and the licensed guide in Pompeii and Herculaneum.
* The entrance in Pompeii is 18 Euros per person and Herculaneum is 13 Euros per person (but it is free of charge for kids under 18 only showing a valid ID).
* Entrance fee to the Crater of Mt. Vesuvius is 10 Euros p.p. and tickets are exclusively purchasable online at least 1 month before on the website: https://vesuviopark.vivaticket.it
